(…and everyone realized it was truly her wedding.)
It was a wedding in the woods, under trees draped with string lights. A soft, slightly boho, slightly rock vibe — just like them. She wore a flowing, gorgeous dress — and high heels.
A few hours later, she pulled me aside and whispered:
“I can’t anymore. My feet hurt. I want to take them off… but I’m afraid it won’t look ‘bridal’.”
I smiled and said:
“Maybe not Pinterest-bridal. But definitely you. And that’s so much better.”
She laughed. Took them off. Stayed barefoot for the rest of the day — and night. She danced, jumped, cried with joy, hugged everyone. That tiny act of freedom changed the whole energy.
Why am I telling you this?
Because it wasn’t a planned moment. It wasn’t staged. But it was real — and unforgettable. That day, she chose herself, and everyone felt it. It wasn’t the “perfect” wedding. It was theirs.
What it reminded me
Weddings aren’t performances. They’re collective emotions. And those little moments of truth — when you say, “I’m doing it my way” — they’re what people carry in their hearts.
