They Skipped the Wedding Cake

(...and nobody missed it.)

For months, they searched for the perfect wedding cake.

Three tastings.

Six different quotes.

Hundreds of photos.

Then one evening, they asked themselves a very simple question.

"Do we actually like wedding cake?"

The answer came immediately.

"No."

What they truly loved was artisan gelato.

So instead of forcing themselves to follow tradition, they created an enormous gelato bar.

Homemade flavours.

Fresh fruit.

Warm chocolate sauce.

Crunchy toppings.

Guests went back again and again.

Years later, people still talk about it.

Not because it was unusual.

But because it felt authentic.

It wasn't different for the sake of being different.

It reflected who they really were.

How many traditions are you keeping... simply because you think you have to?

The wedding cake.

The bouquet toss.

The first dance.

Wedding favours.

The garter toss.

Formal speeches.

None of these traditions are mandatory.

They are simply options.

Beautiful options for some couples.

Completely unnecessary for others.

The only tradition that truly matters is celebrating your commitment in a way that feels genuine to you.

My wedding planner advice

Every time you're about to include a wedding tradition, ask yourselves one question:

"If this tradition didn't already exist, would we choose to invent it today?"

If the answer is no...

You already know what to do.
